The first edition of Disko Arts Festival took place in Oqaatsut, Greenland, 2–6 August 2017. The festival gathered 37 artists from 10 different countries, among them Ableton instructors, Greenland’s only classically trained composer, an Icelandic fashion photographer, a clarinettist from Münchner Philharmoniker and a Nigerian dancer and choreographer.

When the artists arrived, they were encouraged to find inspiration in their immediate surroundings and each other, facilitating spontaneous artistic encounters and improvisations. With Oqaatsut as its arena, the festival embraced public workshops and a children’s concert in the local school-and-church house, in addition to a public performance of the works created that drew 250 people to the old whaling village.
